Apart from the detailed case studies on infractions in the Iberian Peninsula, MINOB also keeps updated statistics on the geographical distribution of social and environmental infractions. This will enable us and any other interested stakeholders to evaluate risks of the extractive industry in the covered territories and also in relation to the particular minerals.
Please note that the MINOB database is still growing and that the current state may not (yet) be a comprehensive representation of noncompliance cases actually existing; especially in regions that are still under investigation (e.g. Portugal).
The graph below shows the regional distribution of the noncompliance cases currently reported in the MINOB database. The division considers the NUTS 2 territorial units for statistical purposes, i.e. the autonomous communities and cities of Spain and the statistical regions and autonomous regions of Portugal. Regions that have no reported case are not represented.
The graph below shows the association of the noncompliance cases currently reported in the MINOB database with the exploitation of specific minerals and metals. Mean noncompliance values have been calculated for the following Critical Raw Materials (CRM) defined by the European Commission (fifth list, 2023), including Strategic Raw Materials: arsenic, cobalt, copper, feldspar, fluorite / fluorspar, lithium, metallurgical coal / coking coal, nickel, niobium, palladium, platinum, ruthenium, tantalum and tungsten / wolfram. Minerals and metals without reported case are not represented.
Are you interested in the data set of the infractions listed on MINOB to generate your own evaluation or to integrate the data in another project? Please download the national datasets below, available in the open exchange format of geoJSON. In case you are interested in a subset of data or in historic information on infractions beyond the lastest version presented here, please get in touch at mail@minob.org.
